A very special Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee jewel with bar. Very unusually, it has the name of the jewel’s recipient and his lodge number inscribed on the back of the ribbon.
The jewels original owner was Bro. G. H. Smith, and his lodge was No. 925. Bro. Smith belonged to Bedford Lodge No. 925, which still meets at Edgbaston Masonic Centre, Stirling Road, Birmingham.
The jewel is hallmarked silver-gilt, enamel and brilliants, and has the date bar, which shows that Bro. Smith attended the especial Grand Lodge meeting held on the 14th June 1897 to commemorate the event.
Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee jewels with provenance are rare.
The jewel comes with its original box.
