An extremely rare Georgian silver and mother of pearl Masonic snuff box.
On the fromt, embedded in the Mother of Pearl with gold coloured studs,
is a square, compass, Sun, Moon, and King Solomon’s seal (Royal Arch).,
On the back is engraved in script- “The Brethren of the Friendly Lodge No. 521
to Bro.r Geo. Woodcock Father of the Lodge at Barnsley AL5818 AD 1818.
Friendly Lodge No. 521 was formed in Barnsley in 1816 and met at the
King’s Head Inn. The lodge was erased in 1832.
Inside it is the most superb and beautiful silver-gilt.
It is difficult to put into words how wonderful this item is.
It weighs a heavy 160 grams, and measures 8.5cm by 5.5cm.
The box has full Georgian Birmingham hallmarks for 1792
(Anchor, Portrait of George III and capital letter U).
With Makers Mark I.T in a flattened circle.
