TH102 The 1742 Martin Folkes medal.
A superb example of this scarce and very early medal, beautifully toned.
Martin Folkes was an antiquary, astronomer and mathematician and a Fellow of the Royal Society at the age of 23 with Honorary Degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge. He was also a numismatist.
He was Deputy Grand Master of the Premier Grand Lodge of England as well as a Member of the Grand Orient of France.
He died in 1754 at the age of 64.
