One of three medals commissioned in 1849 to commemorate the outstanding work undertaken in India for Freemasonary by Dr James Burns on his return to England.

A scarce medal in bronze however this medal is rare in silver.

The inscription on the back reads – FOUNDED BY THE MASONIC BRETHREN OF BOMBAY TO AWARD MERIT AT THE BYCULLA SCHOOLS.

Less than ten examples are known in silver.
